Lisa Silvey and John Winebrenner from Indiana visited again today, along with Steve Roush from Ann Arbor this morning. Our good friends from Tennessee, Jeanece Seals, Phyllis Coble and Theresa Lindsey stopped by this afternoon, in hopes of a late afternoon Golden Eagle - sorry I couldn't produce ladies! Weather: Weather was a mixed bag throughout the day, with almost complete cloud cover at the beginning of the count period, clearing through the midday hours and then cloud build up in the afternoon. Winds were consistently from the S to SSE throughout the count day, with high reaching 19C. Raptor Observations: Raptor movement was very slow today - with the majority of birds coming through during the midday period. A small group of Turkey Vultures were noted flying at the northern edge of visibility from the tower, so there is a good chance that there were additional vultures moving through the central part of the county. A resident Northern Harrier and Red-tailed Hawk were spotted and two resident Osprey continue to frequent the marsh by the tower. Non-raptor Observations: Another day with huge movements of Black-capped Chickadees. 602 were noted passing the tower today. Flocks were carefully checked for Boreal Chickadees, but none were found. The marsh around the tower continues to be full of waterfowl - with all the common puddle ducks noted in good numbers today. Predictions: Tomorrow's weather forecast does not sound too promising for migration. SW winds and 50-70 percent chance of showers throughout the day is predicted. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sarah Rupert ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
