It was comparatively warm with temperatures topping off 56f. Wind was from the north west for most of the day and stayed low around 2mph, if at all. Clouds rolled in earlier than expected, as did the rain, which started lightly at 3pm (EDST). Raptor Observations: The predicted morning push did not go as expected. The first bird of the day, a Red-tailed Hawk, did show up until after 11am. 62 Red-tailed Hawks were still found. We had one each of our highly wanted birds, Golden Eagle, Northern Goshawk, and Rough-legged Hawk. Turkey Vultures came through in a three hour block, amounting to 219 for the day. A total of 305 raptors were counted of 10 species. Non-raptor Observations: 10 Bonaparte's Gulls were noted flying south. American Crows pushed but only a couple hundred at most. Predictions: Tomorrow is likely to follow today's pattern. Afternoon storms are supposed at sundown, and a snow/rain mixture is expected throughout tomorrow night. Friday is looking to be a less than favorable day of precipitation. I say good luck to tomorrow, I've got my fingers crossed. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
