During a quick stop this afternoon I spotted and photographed a red bellied
woodpecker in the north eastern portion of Thickson's Woods. It spent a
lengthy period of time around the log pile and was in the company of
chickadees, red breasted nuthatches, and a pair of downy woodpeckers. The
great horned owl was also spotted and heard making many calls during the
brief visit.

To reach Thickson's Woods, travel east of the GTA to the Thickson Rd. exit
located in Whitby, Ontario. Proceed south beyond Wentworth Street and you
will see the entrance to the woods on the left or eastern side of the
street. Parking is available on Thickson Rd. as well as south of the woods
where a circular park is located nearby the Waterfront Trail.
