Brant Surf Scoter Black Scoter Red-throated Loon Common Loon Black-crowned Night-Heron Osprey Golden Eagle Greater Yellowlegs Purple Sandpiper American Woodcock Golden-crowned Kinglet Eastern Bluebird Nashville Warbler Northern Parula Fox Sparrow Purple Finch White-winged Crossbill Pine Siskin It has been a quieter week this week in the Hamilton Study Area. Action has been centered mainly on the lake but a few goodies remain and birders are looking forward to their winter listing which is just around the corner. Strong east winds prevailed on Tuesday and both PARASITIC AND POMARINE JAEGERS were seen by the hardy who stood at Lakeland. Earlier in the week a Purple Sandpiper was seen at Fifty Point on Saturday. On Monday, a new one day count of Black Scoters (263) were present off Sayers Park including 7 males. A good number of Surf Scoters, Red-throated and Common Loons were seen. There are a few late stragglers around. Perhaps they will make good winter birds (hopeful). A late Osprey was seen over Courtcliffe Park in Carlisle. An American Woodcock was seen this week at Joe Sam's Park in Waterdown. An immature female Northern Parula has been seen at LaSalle Park again, this bird has been present for some time. A Nashville Warbler was seen on the west side of Burloak Park in Burlington last Saturday. A Greater Yellowlegs was seen at Valley Inn. Yesterday, two Golden Eagles were seen over Cootes Paradise. Nine Black-crowned Night Herons were seen together at VanWagner's Ponds last Tuesday. In the odds and sods this week, a Brant was present last weekend at Burloak Park and then another or same one present at Bronte Harbour until Monday. A Purple Finch was seen in Carlisle. White-winged Crossbills flew over Middletown Road and 5th Concession West. Other birds seen at LaSalle were Fox Sparrow and Golden-crowned Kinglet. An Evening Grosbeak was calling at Campbellville and Centre Road (Mountsberg Baptist Church) last Saturday from the top of a Norway Spruce. A significant flock of Eastern Bluebirds were also seen at this location. Early this morning, an Evening Grosbeak flew over south Burlington making this birder happy to add this to the yard list. That's the news for this week, get out and scout your local haunts for strays and good winter birds. Don't forget to send an email along with location!
