Plenty of sunshine, and temperatures were much more tolerable. Wind however did a 180 degree turn since yesterday and came in from the south west at an average of 6mph, and we have trees to block it. The wind was much stronger than we felt, which was proved by the direction Hawks were flying. Which of course, is everywhere but the direction their heading. Raptor Observations: Raptors were very few and far between today. Best birds was 1 male light morph Rough-legged Hawk, and 1 male Northern Harrier. I still believe their are plenty of birds in Canada just waiting for the perfect flight day. One good eastern storm front could bring us the birds we have waited all month for. Only 5 raptors were counted of 4 species. Non-raptor Observations: 62 Tundra Swans were seen in small groups as they came across heading south. 1 really late Eastern Phoebe is the second we've seen this month at the count site, it will probably stick around till the end of the season. Presumably the same female Long-tailed Duck that has been seen off and on this week was seen again today. Predictions: Tomorrow will be slightly warmer with less wind. There is yet another 180 degree wind change and we should expect northerly winds. There is rain expected on Monday, we are hoping this weekend will give us a good push, especially Sunday. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
