Weather: Mostly cloudy with ESE winds 14-16 km/hr with gusts to 20. Temps were fairly mild with a high of 12C. Raptor Observations: A small flight of Red-tails throughout the day along with a decent showing of Harriers and Cooper's Hawks. Two Red-shouldereds went by early on during the 9:00 hour, while two (light) Rough-legged Hawks passed through in the morning with one bird passing fairly low for nice looks. Also seen was a single late Turkey Vulture that made several lazy circles over the treeline to the NE before slowly drifting west. Non-raptor Observations: Several very vocal flocks Tundra Swans totaling 143 individuals flew by overhead heading SE towards the lake. Horned Larks and a small number of Am. Crows were also on the move with 143 and 296 tallied, respectively. Also the now resident Winter Wren continues to make its presence known around the tower by calling every few hours, while a Wilson's Snipe put in an appearance at the edge of the pond in the morning. Predictions: Cloudy with a 30% chance of showers. Winds SW 40 km/hr gusting to 60 with a high 18C. Looking like a wash-out (rain or no rain) with the strong SW winds and warm temps. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jim Pawlicki ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
