Weather: Today was a nice day as there were no weather related issues. Winds were light out of the north west, cloud cover was minimal, and even temperatures were mild. All together it made for a comfortable day for both us and the raptors. Raptor Observations: Easily one of the best days in weeks. We had all three Accipiters, including good looks at two adult Northern Goshawks. We had 2 juvenile Golden Eagles, one at each end of the day. The lunchtime rush flight plan continues, most of our birds were between noon and 1:30pm. A Total of 63 raptors were counted of 8 species. Non-raptor Observations: Early in the day 2 male and 1 female Long-tailed Ducks flew in low from Lake Erie, then immediately turned around and went back. 1 Lapland Longspur was seen flying over in a flock of Horned Larks. Predictions: Tomorrow is going to be an odd one. Winds are looking to show up from the south east, and are likely to be very strong. Cloud cover will roll in tonight and will make for a very cold day of chasing wind blown equipment. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
