The 8th Lanark Highlands CBC was held Dec. 30 2010. Weather was excellent:
cloudy and mild.
Number of birds counted: 4275, a record count. Previous record was 4130
in 2008.
Number of species found: 37, one less than last year. Record was 40, two
years ago.
New bird listed this year: American Kestrel. Possible Golden Eagle is
being assessed.
Records set:
Wild Turkey 295; previous 288 last year.
Rock Pigeon 276; previous 245 in 2005.
Barred Owl 6; previous record 2 in 2007.
American Crow 155; previous record 143 in 2003.
Golden-crowned Kinglet 14; previous record 5, in 2003.
Tied for record is Northern Goshawk (1) and Northern Shrike (4).

Low counts: Mourning Dove 77, down from previous low last year of 98.
In spite of all the purple finches reported earlier in the winter, none
showed up for the count.
