About 2 pm I saw a mockingbird hunkered down in a bush with tiny berries on the fenceline of the Value Village store in Burlington on Fairview Rd. It was quite tame and eventually flew up to the top of the nearest telephone pole and then flew north across Fairview to the next tall tree. Presumably it will return to the bush to finish off the berries.
VV is about 100 yards west of Guelph Line on Fairview Blvd in Burlington on the south side of the road (go south off the QEW or 401 to get to Fairview). Also, a late report (couple of days ago) - one of the ravens was soaring at the cliff-edge of the big Dufferin quarry (these are resident, but I don't commonly see them). Seen from 6th Line, which is the west border of the quarry. Go Hwy 25 N to 5th Sideroad (stoplights). Turn left, go about 5 km and then turn right up Sixth Line. The best views are at the top of the escarpment and there is a trail in from 6th line to a quarry info center (part of the Bruce Trail system) where you can overlook the quarry (nice view of the chewed up Escarpment). Parking is available up the road a piece at two small parking lots which take you into Hilton Falls the "back way". Take your chances if you park along the road (sometimes tickets are given, often not). Good birding!
