Perfect viewing conditions for waterfowl today at the Presqu'ile
waterfowl weekend.

 

The count of species seen this morning courtesy of Lev Frid with a
couple of extra's thrown in by myself and Fred Helleiner is below.

 

 

Canada Geese            - 240 (200-300 moving through this morning) 

Mute Swan                 -   30 

Trumpeter Swan         -    2 

Mallard                       -  87 (one Mallard x Pintail)

Black Duck                -  21

Gadwall                       -  18

American Wigeon      -  52

Eurasian Wigeon        -    1 (male)

Northern Pintail         -   26

Green-winged Teal   -     8

Wood Duck                -   10

 

Greater Scaup            - 1016

Lesser Scaup              -      1 (at least) 

Ring-necked Duck     -     22

Redhead                     -   850

Canvasback                -     37

Bufflehead                 -   104

Common Goldeneye -     82

Red-breasted Merg   -     23

Common Merganser-     20

Hooded Merganser   -       8

White-winged Scoter-      15

Long-tailed Duck       -    310

 

American Coot           -       11

Horned Grebe            -         1

Pie-billed Grebe         -         1

 

Great Blue Heron      -         1

 

To reach Presqu'ile Provincial Park exit 401 south at exit # 509 follow
the signs to the park through Brighton (about 15minutes).  Most birds at
the Calf Pasture day-use area though the scoters and hybrid Mallard x
Pintail were at Owen Pt.  Maps available at the front gate.
