Hi Ontbirders,
The Piping Plover reported earlier today was still on the Beach at 6
pm. It was on Beach 3, near the water's edge mid way between the
beached duck hunting blind and the volleyball net posts.
Other shorebirds on the beach included a Ruddy Turnstone, 10 Least
Sandpipers, one Dunlin, 3 Semi Plover and 5 Killdeer. There were also
4 Brant swimming in the channel between Owen Pt. and Gull island.
In some ways the most unusual sighting was a Wild Turkey (only
recently established in the park) out on the beach walking around some
Canada Geese near the algae dump at the south end of the raked beach!
Cheers,
Doug McRae
Directions: Presqu'ile is just south of Brighton on the north shore of
Lake Ontario. From Brighton follow the signs south to the Park and
follow the main road to the Owen Pt. trail parking lot. From there go
out to the beach and walk north to Beach 3 (the Beach 3 parking lot is
not yet open).
