Harald Scholz and I spent a couple of hours at West Perth Wetlands this
afternoon. The vegetation around the cells is lush and tall this year, and the
cells have plenty of water in them with only a small amount of beach. There was
a single Short-billed Dowitcher, about 10 Lesser Yellowlegs, 5 Least Sandpiper,
10+ Killdeer, and a few Spotted Sandpiper. Waterfowl numbers were low with 2
Blue-winged Teal and a Northern Pintail being the only species of note. Around
the berms were a few Bobolink, kingbirds, and swallows of at least 3 species -
Tree, Cliff, and Barn. Steve ThorpeStratford West Perth Wetlands are in
Mitchell. From Ontario Street (Hwy 8) travel south on Wellington Street to
Frank Street. Cross the road and follow the gravel to the parking lot.
