Weather: Another beautiful day to be outside enjoying the hawkwatching. Unfortunately, the winds were just too light today. Temp got to a high of 22C with some cloud cover. Raptor Observations: Just 27 raptors tallied today...not nearly what we had yesterday...same species but smaller numbers...with Sharpies (4), Harriers (2) and Kestrels (9). A lone Osprey was spotted along with a small number of Broadwings (9). Non-raptor Observations: It was an excellent day for viewing non-raptor species at the Cliff, with several new species reported, including two new warblers, Mourning and Palm, bringing our warbler total for the fall season to 19. Other warblers today were Magnolia, Black & white, American redstart, Bay-breasted, Tennessee, Nashville, Wilson's and Common yellowthroat. Vireos and flycatchers were abundant with good views of Red-eyed, Warbling and Philadelphia Vireos plus Eastern Kingbird, Eastern Wood-peewee, as well as Great-crested, Least and Yellow-bellied (new sighitng today) Flycatchers. An early Swainson's Thrush was spotted in the woods, Wild Turkeys were seen crossing Hawk Cliff Road and Eastern Bluebirds were lined up on the wires along Fairview Rd at Roberts Line. Predictions: W and SW winds and nice weather my prompt a few more Kestrels to head westward along the updraft at the cliff. If nothing else it should be a very pleasant day to enjoy the outdoors. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.on.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
