Cranberry Marsh Hawk Watch

A total of 50 species were seen or heard from the south observation platform

migrating hawks/vultures:

Turkey Vulture - 13
Osprey- 4
Bald Eagle - 5 (4 -1st year and one - 2nd year)
Sharp-shinned Hawk- 11
Northern Harrier - 1
Red-tailed Hawk - 1
American Kestrel - 2
Merlin - 1
Peregrine Falcon - 1 adult female
Total- 39

Other birds- Great Egret - 2, Ruby-throated Hummingbird - 2, American Bittern - 
1, Pied-billed Grebe - 1, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher - 1, Cliff Swallow - 1, 
Common Moorhen - 3 and the leucistic Mallard was present for the third 
consecutive fall. I could not find the ibis, but the viewing was difficult due 
to the extensive cover and the size of the area in which it feeds.

Weather- Overcast, light to moderate winds from NE shifting to east.

Directions: Exit from the 401 at Brock St. in Whitby, go south on Brock St. to 
Victoria St. Go west on Victoria St. to Halls Road. Go south on Halls Road to 
the second walkway going east to Cranberry Marsh.
