Weather: The clouds were low and thick today, intermittently pouring down rain until noon when the rain ceased to be intermittent and it just began to pour. Strong northeast winds continued for a second straight day. Raptor Observations: Not much to speak of. One molting Osprey, a wet and struggling kestrel and a swift early sharpie were all that was counted. Non-raptor Observations: Before the rain came in earnest, a flock of sanderlings buzzed the count area and then darted around the channel for a time before flying off. A few more chimney swifts were seen as well. Predictions: More of the same, unfortunately. Looks like it's going to rain again. And more strong northeast winds means any raptors willing to brave the weather will likely be pushed down toward the shore of Lake Erie and cross closer to Pointe Mouillee. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
