I visited the Casselman lagoons yesterday and the lagoon has been refilled
eliminating all the great shorebird habitat. Ther are only a handful of birds
on the edges of the refilled lagoon, a couple of pectoral sandpipers,
semipalmated sandpipers and plovers, a few lesser yellowlegs and a dozen
killdeer. Last year the north lagoon was excavated and it produced some very
good shorebirds along the edges during the fall migration so we can hope for
the best.
To get to Casselman Lagoons, take Laurier Ave. east from Casselman for about a
kilometer. You will see the pumphouse on the right. Park outside the gate so
you do not impede trucks, which are very few since most of the work is done.
