Participants enjoyed beautiful weather on our first Lake Huron shoreline shorebirds outing on Saturday, September 10th.
75 species were observed during the outing. Highlights included: American Bittern flying, Great Egret (without a wing tag), 12 species of ducks, 17 species of shorebirds, Bonaparte's Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Black Tern, Warbling, Philadelphia and Red-eyed Vireo, Carolina and Marsh Wren. Raptors were noticably absent. Shorebirds - Black-bellied Plover, American Golden Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Ruddy Turnstone, Red Knot, Sanderling, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Stilt Sandpiper, Buff-breasted Sandpiper. Merlin, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and Ruby-throated Hummingbird were added after the group ended the day. Thank you to the participants for helping to make this a great day!
