Paul Berrigan and I checked the plowed field at Richardson Side Road and
Lakeshore Road 308 southwest of Tilbury in Essex County, following up on
reports last weekend of large numbers of Golden Plover and 5 Buff-breasted
Sandpipers. The Golden Plover was scattered over a wide area on the field and
I counted 580 of them, by far the highest count I have ever had of the species
in Ontario.

The Buff-breasted Sandpipers were more difficult. Initially we could not find
any but eventually I spotted two in flight that landed quite close to us
(viewing from Lakeshore Road 308) so we got fine scope views of them.

We checked the Tilbury sewage lagoons only to find high water levels and no
shorebirds.

Cheers,
