My apologies for bad directions on the previous post. The bird was in the
southeast corner of the pond and best viewed from the west side. The first
trail is the east trail and the furthest one is the west trail. I have made
corrections below. This morning at 10:30 am., my friend Heather and I were
able to find the PURPLE GALLINULE at Port Weller. It was in and out of the
reeds on the southeast corner of the first pond (near a hummock and log) at the
edge which was best visible from the west side of the pond. Also in the pond at
that time were three COOTS and a family of MALLARDS.

Directions:

Take the QEW to exit 44 - Niagara Street. Go north on Niagara
to Lakeshore. Turn right on Lakeshore and cross the canal. Turn left at
Seaway Haulage Road and stay on this road as it goes along the edge of the
canal until you reach a gate; a parking area is along the road. The walk
along a hard-packed trail is about a km to the east side trail viewing area, a
bit
further on the hard-packed trail if you go to the west trail side of the pond.
(This morning we tried both trails and the west side trail was best for finding
and viewing.) Barb [email protected] Beamsville, ON
