Early spring migrants continue to arrive. The LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was last 
reported on April 6th but may still be present on the shore of the Bearbrook 
Creek at the bridge on Frank Kenny. Increasing numbers of DOUBLE-CRESTED 
CORMORANTS, WILSON'S SNIPE, AMERICAN WOODCOCK'S, READHEAD, RUDDY DUCKS, LESSER 
BLACK-BACKED GULLS and TREE SPARROWS were reported this week. YELLOW-BELLIED 
SAPSUCKERS, BARN SWALLOWS and single RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, 
VIRGINIA RAIL and HERMIT THRUSH were also reported.
Some of the more interesting birds have been;
- 36 SANDHILL CRANES were seen from Milton Road on April 6th
- 4 CACKLING GEESE were seen among 4 flocks of CANADA GEESE in the Twin Elm 
area on April 7th
- 3 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen on the ponds on the south side of Trail 
Road from the top of the Trail Road hill on April 7th and single birds were 
seen at the same place on April 8th, 9th and 10th
- DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen at Shirley's Bay, Moodie Drive pit and 
the Britannia Conservation Area (BCA) Mud Lake
- 2 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS were seen at the Bill Mason Conservation area on 
Dunrobin Road on April 8th
- 50 RUDDY DUCKS and 1 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER were seen at the Moodie Drive pit 
on April 8th
- a HERMIT THRUSH was reported on April 7th in the Clyde woods
- a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was heard at the Britannia Conservation Area (BCA) on 
April 9th. 2 were reported near the Museum of Nature on April 3rd
- an early BROAD-WINGED HAWK was seen south of the Macdonald-Cartier (Ottawa) 
International Airport on April 6th
- an early ViRGINIA RAIL was heard from the Mer Bleue Conservation Area 
boardwalk on April 9th
- numbers of TREE SWALLOWS were seen at Shirley's Bay, BCA over Mud Lake and 
the Moodie Drive pit
- small numbers of BARN SWALLOWS were seen at Shriley's Bay and Mud Lake
- REDHEADS were seen at the Embrun lagoons on April 11th and at Shirley's Bay 
on April 9th
- a ROSS"S GOOSE was seen on the Giroux Road pond on April 8th
- outside the Ottawa Field-Naturalists' Club (OFNC) area (50 km circle centered 
on the Peace Tower, Parliament Hill) at the Alfred lagoons on April 8th were; 2 
GADWALL, 4 MALLARD, 6 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 2 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 15 REDHEAD, 10 
RING-NECKED DUCK, 4 GREATER SCAUP, 15 LESSER SCAUP, 6 BUFFLEHEAD and 12 RUDDY 
DUCKS
