Ontbirds subscribers,
This evening I saw an Eared Grebe about 150 metres out in Lake Ontario off
Crystal Beach Boulevard south of Thickson's Woods. It was mostly transitioned
to breeding plumage and was associating with a small flock of Bufflehead. A
fairly good flight of Horned Grebes was seen this evening with 57 seen in the
bay off of Thickson's Woods in the hour before sunset. Also seen were two
Iceland Gulls and a Little Gull.
To reach Crystal Beach Boulevard and Thickson's Bay take Highway 401 to exit
412 and take Thickson Road S. south 2 km to the cul-de-sac at its southern
terminus. Park here and walk further south on Thickson Road S. right to the
lakefront and turn east into the private road - that is Crystal Beach
Boulevard. The Eared Grebe was seen out in front of #330.
