Ontbirders, I received a credible report of an apparent adult Whooping Crane from Al Driedger of Ingersoll yesterday. The bird was reported soaring fairly low and calling constantly over his property at 7.30 in the morning. He watched the bird for 15 minutes, as the bird continued to gain height and disappeared to the north. The report included a good description of the bird, including call, eliminating similar species such as Wood Stork and American White Pelican. The property is on the Middlesex / Oxford border and the Crane was observed in both counties. I'm sure the bird is long-gone today but observers farther north [along the Bruce perhaps] should keep a heads-up for the possibility. Thanks to Dave Martin and Jane Bowles for forwarding this sighting. Cheers,
