At 9:00am this morning (Friday May 11) I saw and photographed a Blue Grosbeak in the Calf Pasture day use area of Presqu'ile Provincial Park. It gleaned insects off the shrubs for about 10 minutes in various areas of the "upper" area behind the Atkins Farm historical sign. It then flew fast and hard north into the Lilac Lane area of the private houses that line Presqu'ile Bay. To the best of my knowledge this bird has not been re-located. It is only the 2nd record of this species for the park. If you search for this bird in the area of the private residences please exercise discretion.
David Bree Carrying Place Ontario Presqu'ile Provincial Park is located about 2 hours east of Toronto along the 401. Exit at Brighton and follow the signs south to the park. Locations within the Park are shown on a map at the back of a tabloid that is available at the Park gate. Access to the offshore islands is restricted at this time of year to prevent disturbance to the colonial nesting birds there. Birders are encouraged to record their observations on the bird sightings board provided near the campground office by The Friends of Presqu'ile Park and to fill out a rare bird report for species not listed there. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
