We stopped at the 2 sewage lagoons east of Rainy River this afternoon. The Barwick lagoon is reached by taking Barwick Rd south from Hwy 11 to the river and going east on Queens to Mill Rd. There is a drive way to the gate of the single lagoon. We had a singing Clay-coloured Sparrow, a female Common Goldeneye with ducklings, Sora, GWTeal, BWTeal and Mallards. There is an active Purple Martin box at 9 Mill Rd. We were at the Emo lagoons by 4:30 p.m. We found mostly the same waterfowl species as we had May 26 with the addition of the sought after Eared Grebe in the western lagoon near the western shore, a female Wilson's Phalarope and an American Kestrel chased off by a RWBB.
