Don Barnett, Tim McCarthy and I spent 10 hours on site and
recorded five flocks totaling 297 Whimbrels, a surprising number given the late date.

The flocks were distributed as follows: two@8:25 am; 60@9:39 am; 100@10:41 am (circled the point and landed for about 15 minutes, then kept on circling until last seen headed fling east around the west tip of Humber Bay South Park at 11:30 am);50 with 8 cormorants@2:12 pm; 85@2:18 pm. No other
migrant shorebirds were seen. Common Loons totaled 8. The watch
continues until 30 May but based on today we do not know what to expect tomorrow. The total whimbrel counted to-date (this year) is 4565 (27% of the current estimated 17000 of the Hudson Bay population).

Location: The park is located at the end of Kipling and south of
Lakeshore Boulevar: at the end of Colonel
Samuel Smith Park Drive.
