Whip-poor-will Observations and Surveyors Needed in Ontario Eastern Whip-poor-wills are now back on their breeding territories. The peak period for hearing the iconic call of the Whip-poor-will is now, from May 28 through June 4, although many birds continue to sing regularly until July.
Bird Studies Canada is again seeking volunteers to conduct nocturnal surveys for this threatened species and is asking everyone to report their Ontario whip-poor-will observations to eBird, or to BSC using our online form<https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ONWPW2012>. New this year is the "Where in the Square?" volunteer project, which involves searching for Eastern Whip-poor-wills (or Common Nighthawks) in the breeding bird atlas squares where they have been previously reported.
