This morning, while checking out some of my favourite summer birding areas near Strathroy, I came across both Dickcissel and Northern Bobwhite (also 4 or 5 Upland Sandpiper).
Directions: Location of Dickcissel-Take Calvert Road west of Strathroy. Continue on Calvert past Thames Road. Turn right on the next road. There is a shrubby pasture on your left. The bird was seen in the shrubs not too far back from the fence line. The same bird (or a second one) was seen a little further on just past the shrubby field In the grassy field also on the left. Directions: Location of Northern Bobwhite-Back on Calvert. Continue west on Calvert, past the shrubby field. Turn left on McArthur Road (this is the next road you come to). Continue on McArthur past Walkers Road. There is a field on your left with numerous Bobolinks and Upland Sandpipers. On your right, there is an area that has recently been harvested. At the end of the harvested area, there is a small stream surrounded by trees. The Northern Bobwhite was in this treed area. Not sure if this might be a released bird or not. But I thought it was certainly an interesting sighting, nonetheless.
