Ontario, W. Quebec Compiler & transcriber Bob Cermak [email protected] or [email protected] An adult male CERULEAN WARBLER has been seen and heard singing in Pontiac Station, Quebec since June 14th. An adult breeding plumage LAUGHING GULL was seen (from the Quebec shore below the rapids) flying over the bottom (east end) of the Ottawa River Deschenes Rapids the evening of June 19th. The bird flew out of sight west up the river and has not subsequently been found. This may be the same LAUGHING GULL seen from Britannia Point on June 3rd. The Burnt Lands Provincial Park area proved to be very active on June 15th. Species seen or heard were; 2 UPLAND SANDPIPER, 2 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, a pair of nesting AMERICAN KESTREL, VEERY, EASTERN MEADOWLARK, SNIPE, ALDER FLYCATCHER, TREE and BARN SWALLOWS, PHOEBE, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and YELLOW WARBLERS, SONG SPARROW and NORTHERN FLICKER. Although the Ottawa centertown PEREGRINE FALCONS were not successful breeders this year another pair in the Billings Bridge area has produced a male and a female chick who made their first flights this week. Other interesting sightings were; - a GREAT EGRET, normally seen along the Ottawa River, was found at the Cedarview Road Bruce Pit on June 14th - a single SNOW GOOSE was seen in the field beside the Winchester lagoons on June 16th - a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was reported over the Ottawa River Parkway on June 17th - a COMMON NIGHTHAWK was heard over St. Laurent Blvd at Walkley Road on June 18th - a MOURNING WARBLER was seen and heard singing in an unusual location, the Algonquin College campus, on June 21st Thanks to everyone who contributed bird observations - Good Birding! _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
