Hi birders,

Yesterday afternoon (July 21) Ken Burrell and I found a grebe off of
the lookout behind Bird Studies Canada (BSC) Headquarters in Port
Rowan. The golden/yellow horns/ears were noticeable indicating that it
was a Horned or Eared Grebe. We believed that it had a black neck and
had a peaked crown, which would indicate an Eared Grebe. However, due
to distance, heat shimmer and the bird frequently diving, we weren't
confident in our identification.

I understand that David Bell has re-found the bird today and was able
to confirm it as an Eared Grebe.

An adult male Greater Scaup was also seen, yesterday, at the same location.

Also of note were 6 adult Little Gulls at Port Burwell beach.

Good birding,
