On Sunday August 12th at 12:00 pm, a pair of Red-necked Phalaropes, male and female, nearly in complete non-breeding plumage, were found at the Wiarton Sewage Lagoons. They were feeding and swimming together in the northeastern corner of the middle cell. They were still present when we left at 12:30. Photos were taken, and will be shared on eBird later. Other birds of interest included a female Bufflehead, Chimney Swifts along with many swallows, and Blue-winged Teals. A complete checklist will be submitted to eBird later along with photos. A scope is recommended for good views, but binoculars will suffice.
Directions from Highway 6: After reaching Wiarton going north on Highway 6, turn right on Elm St. Proceed a few hundred metres, and the gate to the lagoons is just past the cemetery on the right side of the road. There's a parking area up the path beyond the gate, and the lagoons are on the left.
