Hello all, Today Kevin McLaughlin and I toured portions of Perth, Huron & Oxford counties in search of southbound shorebirds.
Highlights included: West Perth Wetlands: American Golden-Plover - 19 (adult) Pectoral Sandpiper - 3 (2 juv, 1 adult) Stilt Sandpiper - 1 (juv) Exeter Sewage Lagoon: Baird's Sandpiper - 1 (juv) Pectoral Sandpiper - 1 (adult) Stilt Sandpiper - 1 (molting juv) Wildwood Conservation Area Solitary Sandpiper - 4 (3 juv, 1 adult) Baird's Sandpiper - 3 (juv) Pectoral Sandpiper - 4 (juv) We checked several additional locations with more of the same birds. No phalaropes for us today. For anyone interested, we were unable to access Tavistock sewage lagoon. For directions and access information please see recent reports by others or email me. The main cell at West Perth Wetlands is currently unsuitable for shorebirds, but the eastern-most pond behind the chain-link fence was very productive. My thanks to Kevin for much tutelage in the way of molts, plumages and aging. Regards, Robert Maciver _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
