Thanks for the company everyone! Weather: Ominous gray clouds hung low and thick all day. The rain, which appeared right around the corner throughout, finally came at the start of the 2 o'clock hour, shutting down the watch early. The wind was moderate and out of the north in the morning and then strengthened and shifted to the southeast after noon. Raptor Observations: The change in wind brought several small groups of Broad-winged Hawks streaming past. An early September Merlin blasted through for the second straight day. Other than that, there wasn't much else of note. Non-raptor Observations: Canada Goose 21, Mallard 40, Wood Duck 1, Double-crested Cormorant 65, Pied-billed Grebe 3, Ring-billed Gull 175, Caspian Tern 3, Forsterâs Tern 2, Great Blue Heron 3, Great Egret 2, Lesser Yellowlegs 1, Tree Swallow 40, Barn Swallow 8, Northern Rough-winged Swallow 2, Bank Swallow 1, Purple Martin 14, Chimney Swift 2, Ruby-throated Hummingbird 2, Cedar Waxwing 35, Northern Flicker 1, Red-breasted Nuthatch 2, White-breasted Nuthatch 1, American Robin 1, Mourning Dove 8, Blue Jay 3, Warbling Vireo 2, Black-throated Green Warbler 3, Cape May Warbler 4, Tennessee Warbler 1, Black-and-white Warbler 1, Red-winged Blackbird 15, Common Grackle 3, European Starling 31, American Goldfinch 4 Monarch 5 Predictions: It's forecast to be a mostly cloudy Labor Day with a 30 percent chance of rain.
