Weather: Conditions were mild today with 100 percent cloud cover and temperatures mostly in the 70s. When there was wind, it was light and out of the west. Raptor Observations: Only Sharp-shinned Hawks were interested in moving before the incoming rain. Non-raptor Observations: A Killdeer gave us a fly-by early and a Common Nighthawk was spotted overhead late. Purple Martins (25+) continue to be seen with some regularity and were joined by more Chimney Swifts (10+) than have been apparent lately. Predictions: The overnight rain is going to spill over into tomorrow, rendering a hawk count less and less likely. After this storm passes, Sunday, with a forecast of partly cloudy skies and northwest winds at 5-10 mph, has the potential to be very, very good. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
