It seems things are starting to pick up in the Ottawa area. This morning I had
a female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE visible from the boat launch at Shirley's Bay. The
Barrow's was feeding with two common goldeneye females, and had a solid orange
bill and characteristic flat forehead. It was quite distinct when seen with
the commons. Two SURF SCOTERS and singles of WHITE-WINGED and BLACK SCOTER
were also visible on Shirley's Bay, along with the more common diving ducks.
Thanks to Nick von Maltzahn, I found the WESTERN GREBE from the Deschênes
Lookout off the Ottawa Parkway at 3pm. While visible from this location, it is
better observed on the Québec side from Parc des Rapides-Deschênes. It was
just east from the boat launch.
Good birding!Pat
