Simply an exhaustive day on the Lake Erie shore in and just south of Buffalo in Erie County. Kudos to Ontario birders for the adult Ross's Gull they observed flying past them at Waverly Beach in Fort Erie around 10:20 am. To my knowledge the bird was not relocated the rest of the day. Highlights from Erie County: Cave Swallow - foraging for hours around the SW portion of the large parking lot at Woodlawn Beach State Park. Enjoyed by many with excellent views both flying and perched. Late in day, Brian Morse and I watched a flock of 6 birds (mixture of juvs and sub-adults) work their way north along the outer harbor from the small boat harbor area up to Times Beach before they dispersed out over the lake. Black-legged Kittiwake - single juveniles were present at Woodlawn Beach State Park, Buffalo Small Boat Harbor, and Erie Basin Marina. All loosely amongst many Bonaparte's Gulls. Little Gull - adults amongst Bonaparte's at Hamburg Town Park and Woodlawn Beach State Park. Forster's Tern - juvenile late in day amongst several hundred Bonaparte's at Rich Marine along the Niagara River in Buffalo. Golden Eagle - juvenile observed by Joe Mitchell that was heading SE into the city of Buffalo from Erie Basin Marina around 12:55 pm. Corey Callaghan my have had the same bird pass by Woodlawn Beach State Park shortly thereafter.
