Weather: It was cloudy through most of the day, partially clearing by the end of the count period. It continued cool with temperatures reaching just 4C, and light winds were out of the northeast most of the day, picking up strength in the late afternoon. Raptor Observations: A much more exciting day than yesterdays, with Golden Eagles (7) the major highlights. There was a steady movement of Red-tailed Hawks through the early afternoon and a nice number of Red-shouldered Hawks. The Gyrfalcon that has been noted several times in the last week was noted along the beach again around 8:30 am. Non-raptor Observations: There was again a strong movement of finches through the site today, with American Goldfinches again dominating, however, Pine Siskins and Common Redpolls were also noted. A flock of Evening Grosbeaks also passed by the tower. The diversity of ducks continues in the marsh and there was also a good movement of Tundra Swans through the site again today. The highlight of the afternoon was a small group of Cave Swallows (4) that passed over the tower at 2:45 pm this afternoon. Predictions: Weather should be very similar tomorrow with a little more sun, that will hopefully spur on some more migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sarah Rupert ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
