Weather: The temperature ranged from -1.2 to +1.8C. Despite the temperature it was a beautiful day, probably because the humidity was in the 40 - 50% range, there were clear skies and a warming sun. Winds started off as predicted out of the WNW at 10 km/hr, but gradually reduced in speed and shifted to the south-west just before noon. Raptor Observations: The morning weather was perfect for a last flight of raptors, but alas it did not occur. Only 4 Red-tailed Hawks passed in migration all day, 3 of them at the same time in their own little mini-kettle. Non-raptor Observations: The number of individual raptors was matched by the number of species of other birds on migration today. There were 99 American Crows; 16 Cedar Waxwings; 4 Red-winged Blackbirds;and 30 American Goldfinch. Predictions: A partly cloudy day with temperatures from -1 to +3 Celcius, and winds out of the south-west at 20 km/hr shifting to the west in the afternoon at 15 km/hr. Afraid it is going to be another slow day of raptor migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Todd Pepper ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
