Cold, temperatures hovered around freezing throughout. The wind was light and variable. Raptor Observations: Good variety despite the limited volume. Watching a feisty adult Bald Eagle diving repeatedly at a mildly annoyed Golden Eagle was a nice treat. Non-raptor Observations: A fairly large group of Sandhill Cranes (50+) noisily announced their presence in the early morning. The birds appeared to be pretty lost or at the very least quite confused. They circled several times over Celeron Island (with a few running into each other) before deciding to make their way southward. Predictions: Partly sunny with highs in the low 40s and moderate west wind becoming northwest in the afternoon. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
