Hi I just wanted to correct some information posted about Darlington Provincial Park, I was actually there myself yesterday.
The park is one of the Ontario Parks that is open all winter, which means that a permit is required. There are self-serve permits available at the kiosk in the park office parking lot, where the sign at the main gate directs you. Cost is $10.75. Of course if you have a year or winter pass those are both valid. This pass is essentially a parking permit at this time of year as the gate is closed at the Park Office but it is only a a short walk to the beach, which was gorgeous yesterday when the sun came out. Be sure to obtain a permit to avoid a parking ticket. There are limited staff on at his time of year so the office is not open all the time, personal may be out in the park or at meetings, but it is usually open during business hours during the week. You can also call the superintendent, Curt Morris at (905) 436-2036 X 231. While not a birder himself, he keeps the bird feeder stocked at the office and usually hears from other birders what is around. He is happy to hear from you if you have any questions or concerns about the park. I saw a Northern Shrike in the hedgerow just before the railway tracks heading into the park. Darlington is 2kms south of the 401. Exit 425 at Courtice and follow the signs.
