A first winter male HARLEQUIN DUCK was found on the 4th, and seen by many on
the 5th, on the Ottawa River rapids north of Bate Island just east of the
Champlain Bridge.
The number of COMMON REDPOLL continue to increase in the Ottawa/Gatineau area.
Single HOARY REDPOLL were seen with COMMON REDPOLL (100+) on the 29th and with
350+ on the 30th in the Dunrobin area. A single exilipes HOARY REDPOLL was
seen with a small flock of COMMON REDPOLL on Rushmore Rd on the 1st.
Flocks of BOHEMIAN WAXWING continue to be seen throughout our area this past
week. Only one flock of PINE GROSBEAK (12 in Fitzroy Harbour) was reported
however there are sure to be small numbers of PINE GROSBEAK, EVENING GROSBEAK
and RED CROSSBILL continuing at many locations.
A female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER continues to be seen 200 m from the
Eardley-Masham Rd up trail 56 at Ramsay lake. BOREAL CHICKADEE were not
reported this past week near Ramsay Lake but may still be present.
Other interesting sighting were;
- NORTHERN PINTAIL (1) was at the Ottawa River Pkwy Des Chenes Rapids Lookout
on the 30th and the 1st
- BARROW'S GOLDENEYE (1 female) on the Ottawa river at Andrew Haydon Park on
the 30th
- WOOD DUCK (1 injured female) on the grass and the river north of the
filtration plant at the Britannia Conservation Area
- BALD EAGLES (2 adult) on Upper Duck Island on the 30th, (2) near hwy 174 at
Jeane d'Arc and (8) near Quyon, Quebec on the 1st
- CACKLING GOOSE (1) on the Rideau River seen from Manotick Island on the 3rd
- GLAUCOUS GULL (1, 2nd winter) on the Rideau River from Strathcona Park on
the 3rd
- LONG-TAILED DUCK on the rapids north of Bate Island and east of the Champlain
Bridge on the 4th
