Today after Ian Cannell and I finished birding Reesor Pond (White-fronted and Cackling Geese and Ring-necked Ducks) and Darlington Prov. Park beach (no Purple Sandpipers) we drove along Lakeshore Rd between Newcastle and Port Hope.
In the trees and behind a house Just west of Jaynes Rd we spotted approx. 200 Bohemian Waxwings that gave us great looks and just a few house further east was a flock approx. 50 male and female Brown-headed Cowbirds in some trees Both houses above have feeders.. We continued driving east along Lakeshore Rd and were surprised by a nice adult Merlin 25 feet ahead of us just west of Newtonville Rd. This bird kept 25 feet ahead on posts for the next 100 feet or so before flying off behind us. Both Jaynes Rd and Newtonville Rd are west of Port Granby.
