This afternoon at 2:30 pm (December 9, 2012), my mom and I observed a blue morph Snow Goose flying with Canada Geese near the Blenheim sewage lagoons. We observed the small group flying over the intersection of Talbot Trail and Lagoon Road and they landed out of sight to the East of the intersection. There were many Canada Geese in the area but the Snow Goose stood out among the Canada Geese with an obvious white head, mostly dark neck and body, and white wings with black flight feathers. This bird was spotted at approximately 9000 Talbot Trail near Blenheim in Kent County.
After seeing the Snow Goose, we went to Ridgetown Sewage Lagoons and, as posted on December 7 by Gavin Platt, we saw a single Blue-winged Teal in the southern of the two ponds north of Mitton Line, and a Ross's Goose flew over at least 6 times with Tundra Swans (still present in the thousands) but the heavy rain and cold wind made it very difficult to see if it was the same individual. There were hundreds of Canada Geese but the weather was too bad to look closely for Cackling Geese. Also, there was a white domestic duck/goose in the pond south of Mitton Line and a good selection of ducks scattered in the lagoons. The Ridgetown Sewage Treatment Plant is located at the intersection of Mitton Line and Mitton Industrial Park Road, north of Ridgetown in Kent County. Good luck and happy birding!
