Summary Results of 10th Annual Lanark Highlands Christmas Bird Count, held
Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012.
Count is centred on the village of Watson's Corners in the Township of
Lanark Highlands, Lanark County.
Weather was cold with much deep snow on the ground and snow very heavy in
the trees.
Total Species counted 40, tying the previous record of 40 species seen in
2010.
Total Birds counted 4047 , slightly lower than record of 4276 in 2010.
Record highs: Bald Eagle (15), Common Raven (74), Common Redpoll (1,111),
House Sparrow (206).
New to the Count circle: Golden Eagle (1) and Red-bellied Woodpecker (1).
Two Red Crossbills appeared at a local feeder during Count week but were
not there on Count day.
Records were equalled for: Sharp-shinned Hawk (2) and House Finch (12).
