Greetings, There is a single drake Northern Pintail hanging around with Mallards and Blacks on the Drag River in Haliburton. Bird can be observed off Riverside Dr., just E of bridge on Highland St. Also present in the area (at the far E end of Riverside Dr.) is a Barred Owl that is regularly hunting under bird feeders. Evening and Pine Grosbeaks are still frequenting the same neighbourhood, as are several juncos (pretty good winter bird here). The biggest surprise today, though, was a Spotted Salamander found cruising along my driveway in 1 degree weather (found and photographed by Val Bishop)! How's that for a good winter herp!!!
Also, this past Sunday, there were 2 Trumpeter Swans lingering in the open water at Moore Falls (just below Gull River inflow). Moore Falls is on Hwy 35, 10 min S of Minden. The village of Haliburton is near the intersection of Hwy 118 and Cty Rd 21. Cheers, Ed Poropat Haliburton, ON _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
