Mike and I toured the Haldimand area today, coming down from Hamilton to Cayuga, along the Grand River to Dunnville, then along the lake, to Selkirk and home, in Waterloo. Weather-wise, it was a pretty day; completely clear, no wind, and very pleasant temperatures. A great day to be out. We had several highlights, with the following: Greater White-fronted Geese - 4 (a family group) noted along the lake, just west of Sweets Corners (see our earlier email for specific directions).Golden Eagle - 1 first/second-year seen just north of the village of York, along the Grand River at 10am. We got great looks at this bird, and it obligingly landed near us.Savannah Sparrow - we had a total 9!!! A single bird in Port Maitland, and a flock of 8 (what the) along Lakeshore at house marker 2984.Eastern Meadowlark - a flock of 8 on Kings Row Road, just west of Port MaitlandHoary Redpoll - 1 extremely pale female along the Lakeshore, at house marker 2984.Red-shouldered Hawk - 1 adult along Lakeshore, at house marker 2120. Raptor numbers were in evidence throughout the day, with 2 Northern Harriers, 60 Red-tail's, 5 Rough-legged's, 2 Cooper's and 5 A. Krestrels. In total we had 51 species. Directions: all birds were along the lakeshore.
