This afternoon, Pete Read and I met up on Amiens Road (between Glengyle
Drive and Ilderton Road), just about 3 km northeast of Strathroy. This is
the area where Les Griffith reported seeing 7 Ross’s Geese earlier this
week. The geese were quite easy to spot and were in the company of numerous
Canada Geese.

Caution must be used if you go to see these birds. Amiens can be quite a
busy road from time to time and there is really only one spot between
Glengyle Drive and Ilderton Road in which it is safe to pull off the road.

Also, on Glengyle Drive, about ½ km from Amiens Road, there is a low, wet
pasture area with several small “ponds”. This area also has numerous Canada
Geese. We saw 50-75 American Robins here, a pair of Pintail and lots of
blackbirds, including several Rusty’s. Caution must also be used along this
stretch of Glengyle. There is not much room to “pull over” to safely stay
off the road.

Directions: Going west on Highway 402 from London towards Strathroy, take
the Hickory Drive (County Road 39) exit. Instead of merging onto Hickory
Drive and heading towards Strathroy, turn left instead toward the north.
Follow Hickory Drive towards Egremont Drive (County Road 22). Just before
getting to Egremont Drive, there is a road to the right. This is Amiens
Road. Follow Amiens Road past the Hedley Drive intersection and then past
the Glengyle Drive intersection. Just beyond Glengyle Drive, Amiens Road
dips down a bit and there is lowland on both sides of the road. The Ross’s
Geese were on the right side (south side) of the road.
