On 13Apr the Tree Swallows returned to the backyard.   Today their are four of them staking out the nest boxes.  As I am writing this a male Goldfinch in almost full bright yellow and black breeding plumage is at one of the feeders.   A female is sticking pretty close to him.

Yesterday,  at about four PM I spotted a large Tom Turkey strutting and drumming at the edge of the bush about 500 yds from the house.  I set up the spotting scope and watched him for the next 3.5 hrs.  At about 7PM a hen arrived and he promptly had his way with her.  I was surprised that for most of the time I watched him he marched back and forth in a very small space raising and lowering his fan.  I didn't hear him gobble while he did this.  In the morning I did hear a bird gobbling in the bush.
He disappeared into the bush about 7:30.
