Hi Ont-birders; Much to my surprise a Black Vulture flew overhead today while I was on the rail trail talking to a biker. Being a non-birder he was a bit confused as I danced around the trestle after the sighting. It was easy to see the white wing tips and shorter tail. I also noticed the quicker wing beats and the flatter wing profile while soaring. I spent the next 2 hours on the old dump mound scanning the sky but there was no second coming. Also of note at the lagoons today was a Blue-winged Warbler and an Upland sandpiper. Bruce Birding Club was here on Thursday May 2 and hit a Warbler fall out right on the money. We saw 57 species including 10 warblers. It was the best day so far this year. Full checklists of the birds seen can be viewed on eBird. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S13970737
Directions; Kincardine is on Lake Huron where highways 9 and 21 cross. The sewage lagoons can be accessed from several locations. The Black Vulture was seen from the trestle bridge on the rail trail at the back of the cemetery. The cemetery is approximately 1 KLM west of highway 21 on Bruce Avenue. Parking is at the very back of the cemetery.
