At 7:30 this morning, Stu Mackenzie found an Ash-throated Flycatcher while on morning census at our Old Cut Field Station. The bird was working the pines along Lighthouse Crescent from the gate at the end out to the corner of Erie Blvd. Several of us were able to get on the bird as it fed actively over the course of the next 45 minutes. We lost it finally in the pines in the Old Cut woodlot.
All of the salient features of Ash-throated were noted including the call. To my knowledge the bird has not been seen since about 8:15 but it may well still be in the general area as it was often hard to see in the tops of the thick pines and spruce. Our Old Cut Field Station is on Old Cut Blvd. which is the second last street on the left before Erie Blvd./Hwy 59 ends at Long Point P.P. Ron Ridout Bird Studies Canada P.O. Box 160 115 Front Rd.
