Hi fellow birders;

The Dickcissel was still present at Luther Marsh this afternoon giving great
shows as it sang from the low cedars near the road on the west side of Sideroad
21-22 south of Monticello.  This handsome bird would sing in earnest for about
15 minutes, then disappear for about 10 minutes & return for another close
encounter...no need for a scope.  Another birder, Betty from Toronto & I
watched it for well over an hour.

There are lots of other great birds to enjoy when the Dickcissel disappears
including Bobolinks.

Warning, if you are using the bird songs from IBird, their example of the song
is very different.  The song this bird is singing is much lower in pitch & it
is the later part of the song that travels any distance.  The pitch is closer
to Sibley's example but the entire song seemed a bit more complex.  The song
was repeated almost exactly each time.

When travelling south of Monticello on 21-22 there is a slight hill or rise in
the road where you pass under telephone wires.  The bird was approximately 200
feet south of that.

Good birding,
Susan Menzies
